JUNIORS TO BE FULLY ORGANISED NEXT RUGBY SEASON
RESOLVE OF WANGANUI AND OLD BOYS’ CLUB
The intention that the junior players were to be considered to the utmost next season was voiced hy practically all speakers at the Wanganui and Old Boys Rugby Football Club’s end-of-season dinner on Saturday night.
In his opening remarks the president (Mr. R. G. Taiboys) expressed regret that the representation ot the senior team was so small. The attendance of the juniors of the club, he said, augured well tor the future of the club next season. Mr. Taiboys added that the lean lime which the juniors had had over the last two seasons would not be repealed next year. There would be several ot the old stalwarts of the club supporting and coaching the juniors. He admitted the importance of juniors to any club, and promised them a better season in 1947,
Trophies won during the season just concluded were presented by the president. The respective winners were:
Senior Grade.—Wakefield Cup, for lhe best, all-round player: K, Welsh. Robertson Cup, for the most improved player: K. Stone. Williams Cup, for the best club man: J. Cook.
Junior Grade—Quinn Cup. for the best club member: G. S. Strachan. Club's trophy, for the best back: N. Wilshire. Taiboys Cup, for the best forward player: L. Jones. The following toast list was honoured in the accustomed manner:— "Kindred Clubs,” pronosed by Mr. R. Ta'boys (reply by Mr. R. Butters, Technical Old Boys); "New Zealand an'’ Wanganui Rugby Unions." Mr. L. Udy (Mr. H. Kench); "The Wanganui and Old Boys’ Club,” Mr. W. Moffett (Mr. Taiboys): "The Coaches," Mr. L. Donovan (Mr. W. Rutherford). The dinner was held at the Metropolitan Hole)
