Mr, D. O. Whyte, of the Golden Bay Cement Co., has been elected president of the Wellington Manufacturers’ Association for the coming year.
Mr. S. G. (Pat) Stewart, for the past eight years on the staff of Freeman R. Jackson and Co., Raetihi, has been transferred to the Wanganui office of the firm. He is being replaced in Raetihi by Mr. A. G. Sampson, Wanganui.
Mr. Sidney Jacobs, a London director of the firm of Joseph Nathan and Co., is corning to New Zealand as a passenger in the new steamer Hinemoa. He will -be accompanied by Mrs. Jacobs. Mr. Jacobs is a brother of Messrs. A. and F. Jacobs, of Wellington, and Mr. 13. J. Jacobs, of Palmerston North. Mr. R. F. Liley, for 22 years a member of the composing staff of the “Chronicle,” was farewelled by the management and staff yesterday prior to his leaving to take up another appointment in the city. The manager, Mr. L. C. Young, thanked Mr. Liley for the services he had rendered for the “Chronicle,” and in wishing him the best for the future, presented him with a fireside chair and cheque. A tribute to the high standard of Mr. Liley’s work was paid by a fellow staff member, Mr. J. Low. Replying, Mr. Liley stressed the team work that had existed among the staff and expressed his thanks for the presentation.
