RANGITIKEI COUNTY
ENGINEER REPORTS ON VARIOUS RIDINGS
The Lower Turakina Valley Road had been raised in order to conform with extensions which were being carried out by the Railways Department in the Turakina station yards, reported the engineer, Mr. S. A. R. Mair, at the monthly meeting of the Rangitikei County Council yesterday. He added that the alterations were being made because of the railway deviation.
The chairman, Cr. K. W. Dalrymple, presided, also in attendance being Crs. G. L. Marshall, A. S. Coleman. T. C. Chisholm, A. D. Mair, J. M. B. Collier, V. Smith and W. Doole, and the county clerk, Mr. F. L. Nicol, and the engineer. Leave of absence was granted to Crs. H. G. Stewart and J. R. L. Hammond.
In a detailed repo t on the various ridings, the engineer stated that all roads in the Rangitoto Riding were in fair order. A bridge over the Makirikiri Stream (Otakapu Riding) had been repaired and a re-survey made of the Kokitiata township. All suitable building sites would be located on the plan. to the Ma tenakina Road, caused chiefly by railway transport lorries, har been repaired.
Small slips ared from the Turakina Road (Wangaehu ) and washouts on the Man hoe Road tn.;....... up and widened. The deck of the bridge across the Maungaraupi Stream b.idge at Leedstown (Rangitira Riding) had been repaired. Slips and washouts had also been cleared from roads in the Otairi Riding. Numerous small slips throughout the Awarua Riding had also received attention.
“No se ious slips have resulted from heavy rains in the Te Kapua Riding, but several roads were blocked slightly," the engineer added. "These have all been opened to traffic."
A washout also occurred on the Moawhango Valley (Erewhon Riding) at a broken culvert, but this had been repaired and timbered up with poplars.
