ROYAL CHARTER SOUGHT
ACCOUNTANTS’ INSTITUTE. Wellington, Oct. 3. Further endeavours are to be made to obtain a Royal Charter for the accountancy profession, said the president, Mr. W. Appleton, at the annual meeting of the Incorporated Institute of Accountants of New Zealand.
The annual report stated that the membership was a record and a further large increase in membership was anticipated. During the year three Armed Forces scholarships were awarded, and two of the successful applicants were now established in good positions in London. The thii scholarship-holder was leaving New Zealand later this year and a very good position with a firm of chartered accountants awaited him in London. The award to Mr. N. W. Harton, of Wellington, was made by the council the same day. Mr. Harton returned last year from live years the Navy, where he had risen to the rank of lieutenant. He had extensive experience in public accountants oflices and in commercial appointments before the war, and was an examined member of the New Zealand Society of Accountants and oi the Australasian Institute of Cos; Accountants.
Mr. J. S. Butler, of Hastings, a past councillor and president, of the institute, was elected to be its fourth life member. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mr. W. Appleton (Wellington); vice-president, Mr. 11. BickneL (Christchurch); councillors, Mesfs. A. D. Thomson and 11. Wylie (Auckland), W. Appleton, J. L. Arcus, and C. D. Morpeth (Wellington), 11. Bicknell, D. E. Millar, and R. de G. Robilliard (Christchurch), H. H. Henderson and H. H. Sykes (Dunedin), A. C. A. Hyde (Hastings), T. Auto (Wanganui), and W. C. Harrington (Palmerston North); treasurer, Mr. C. D. Morpeth (Wellington); secretary, Mr. R. C. Morpeth (Wellington).
