JUNIOR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE FORMED

Presided over by Mr. D. Christensen, a well-attended meeting o£ young men in Marton on Tuesday night unanimously decided to form a Marton branch of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Early in August a sub- ' committee was set up to consider the possibilities of forming a branch of the organisation in Marton, and on Tuesday night Mr Christensen reported on the committee's investigations. He outlined something of the junior chamber’s international and New Zealand set up and its aims and activities. He said that the Junior Chamber was at all times non-politi-cal and had proved itself to be an asset to the community and benefit to members in other centres. Members were encouraged to take an interest in local affairs and as an organisation, branches had always trieo to assist end support activities requiring public patronage. Lectures of ail educational and topical interest were given members at the fortnightly or monthly gatherings and these, in themselves, would prove of value. Oliicers elected were:—Pi esident, Mr. D. Christensen; vice president, Dr. M. L. Benson; secretary, Mr. L. E. Anderson; sub-committee conveners, Messrs F. Morrison (finance), A. Hayward (membership and publicity), N. Langford (projects), B. Grade (entertainment) and R. Kirkby (gent, ral).
