MELBOURNE-SYDNEY EXPRESS CRASHES INTO STOCK TRAIN
Reed. 9.10 p.m. Sydney, Sept. 4. When speeding through Eowning this morning the Sydney-bound Melbourne express was switched on to a side line, and crashed into the rear of a stationary stock train. Only five pasengers were injured, none seriously. The express driver clapped on the emergency brakes, tut the 200 ton engine ploughed through the guard’s van of the stock train and left the rails. An emergency engine was able to pick up the express after a delay of two and a-half hours and bring it into Sydney early this afternoon.
