DEATH OF NOTED EDUCATION BENEFACTOR

MR. WILLI FTELS, OF DUNEMN. (P.A.) Dunedin, June 30, The death of Mr. Willi Fels, C.M.G.g which occured on Sunday, has re* moved one of the greatest . enefactors to the cause of education in Otago and a prominent figure in several of the city’s leading business nouses. Mr. Fels was born in Brunswick, Germany, in 1858, and came to Dunedin in 1888, becoming a member* of the firm of Hallenstein Bros, on his arrival. At the time of his death h 6 was chairman of directors of the firm, and was also a director of the D.I.C. Ltd. and Donaghy’s Rope and Twine Ltd. Mr. Fels' monetary gifts to the uni* versitj* for advancement of its museum were considerable, and are believed Io have amounted to not less than £25,000, although he insisted no public recognition should be made of his benefactions. He is survived by two married daughters, Mrs. K. Thompson (Amberly) and Mrs. Emily Forsyth, Dunedin.
