ARCHDEACOA YOUNG TO LEAVE WANGANUI
NEW PARISH AT PAHIATUA Archdeacon J. R. Young, vicar of Christ Church, Wanganui, and archdeacon of WaitotarA since 1932, is leaving Wanganui at the end of August to take up the appointment of vicar at Pahiatua. Some time ago Archdeacon Young wrote the diocese •semination committee in Wellington pointing out that he had been in Wanganui for nearly 15 years, and that the time had arrived for a change, both for the benefit of the parish and Himself. He wai prepared to go anywhere that was desired and where he would be most help to the Church. Recently, he was notified by the bishop that a vacancy had 'alien open at Pahiatua. and accepted the offer. He will be succeeding the Rev. K. But ten, who has been appointed to the Hastings parish in the diocese of Waiapu. Born in Koroit, Victoria, in April 1891, the son of a pastorlist, Archdeacon Young was educated at Can* terbury College and Sydney Univer-* sity, gaining his MA. degree. While at ’varsity be received his blue for running, and wax also prominent in Rugby, later becoming a provincial representative.
He became State secretary of thei Student Christian Movement in N.S.W. (1911-12). travelling secretary for New Zealand in 1913-14, and wajj ordained curate of Sydenham in 1915. Following two years as a chaplain ofi lhe forces, ho was appointed vicar of Heathcote in 1919. remaining therd till 1923, when he was appointed vicaj of Ross. In 1928 he went to Hawereh whence he cajne to Wanganui. At the end of this year he would hav* completed 15 years in Wanganui. Although he will lake up his neMl charge at the end of August, Arch*
