Car Converted. As yet untraced, a 1939 Standard 9 car was removed from St. Hill Street on Saturday night. The car is painted light grey and was carrying the registration plates 45,265, but as a set of the latest plates were in the vehicle it is possible it may now be bearing the 1946-47 plates 100,209.

22 Years a City. To-day Wanganui has been a city for 22 years, as it. was on July 1, 1924, that -lhe town,, then with a population of nearly 26,000, was officially constituted a city. Only 62 years had elapsed at that time since the original settlement had leen made a town board, and in 1872, with a population of just over 200, became a borough. Drath in Bed. Natural causes are believed to have brought, about the death of Mr. Thomas McKenzie, a retired farmer, aged 63, who was found dead in his bed at 25 Portal Street at 10.20 o’clock on Saturday morning. An inquest was opened yesterday morning before the district coroner, Mr. S. M. Dixon, J.P., and, after evidence of identification had been taken, was adjourned sine die.

Rugby Player Injured. The main game at Spriggens Park on Saturday afternoon had been in progress some time in the first spell, when B. Buckley, break-away forward for Pirates, broke a leg just above the ankle. He -was "emeved to hospital by Free Ambulance, and his condition is reported as satisfactory. Buckley is one of the best forwards playing this season and he will be missed by his team. Music Exam Successes.
