NATIONAL PARTY

WOMEN’S SECTION, WANGANUI ELECTORATE. The monthly commitee meeting was held last Friday at the party headquarters, Miss Elaine Newton presiding. Mrs. W. E. Robbie and her helpers were thanked for the highly successful recent card evening. There is to be an afternoon musical oarty next month. Final arrangements were made for the forthcoming visit of Mrs. Hilda Ross, who will address a public meeting for women in the Opera House. A remit concerning the results of the present education policy was passed unanimously. It will be forwarded to Wellington. RANGIWAEA GOLF DANCE. A dance in aid of the newly-formed Rangiwaea Golt Club was held on Saturday night, May 11, in Collier’s ■Whakarua Station Shed.” There were over 200 present, who tripned “the light fantastic” to music supplied by an orchestra from Waiouru Military Camp, under the conductor-ship of Mr. Keith Cameron, who hails from Dunedin. The woolshed was decorated with cabbage trees, pungas and autumn foliage, by Mesdames E. Spooner and S. R. Collier, assisted by the younger members of Mr. and Mrs. J. Collier's family. They are to be complimented on transforming the shed into a veritable fairy bower. Mr. Horace Frew was M.C. Miss Helen Collier, of Wanganui, played several extras. An excellent buffet supper was served in the shearers’ dining room, which had also been artistically decorated. Mesdames Collier (3), assisted by the ladies of the district, were responsible for cooking and serving such a bountiful supper. Many novelty items were introduced during the evening to help swell the funds, which amounted to £59. Mr. S. Livingston, president of the Golf Club, in a brief speech, thank'd all those who had worked so hard to make the evening the success it had been—making special mention of Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Collier, who had organised the dance. He also made mention of Mrs. E. Spooner, who had done so much work in connection with tire dance, but was unable to be present, on account of an accident met with, while helping to get the shed ready a few days prior to the event.
