MILLION CELEBRATE IN NEW YORK

Recd 8 p.m. New York, April 21. At least. 1,000,000 persons participated in the city’s traditional Easter parade. The police estimated it was the largest for many years. Brilliant sunshine made a perfect setting for the promenaders, who transformed the fashionable Fifth Avenue into a veritable stream of flowers. Brightly coloured floral hats predominated, but, as usual, there was no limit to the fantastic millinery creations ranging from a single bloom to a huge bouquet, in which women ot all ages from four to 70 years proudly joined. It was noteworthy that the elderly participants wore the brightest and most colourful hats.

Thirty thousand people attended the various masses at St. Patrick's Cathedral, while 7000 worshippers filled the 11 a.m. service at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral. Most, of the other churches were also crowded. Ideal weather also prevailed at San Francisco, where 50,000 attended the sunrise services on the top of Mt. Davidson, overlooking the Pacific. Similar large crowds filled the Hollywood Bowl and in Chicago 40,000 attended the dawn services at Soldiers’ Field.
