THE SEASON OPENED <O.C.) Taihape, April 9. The opening of the 1946 golf season in Taihape, which took place last week-end, was very successful, although lain marred the play somewhat on Saturday afternoon. The competitions resulted as follows: Opening day mixed foursome: Miss K. Bowler and T. Collerton. Men’s medal round: L. Little. Ladies’ foursome: Mesdames Barrell and Little. Men’s four-ball bogey: T. Collerton and J. Sutherland. Putting, first day: Mrs. J. Quinn and A. Mortland; second day, Mrs. R. O’Callaghan, and J. W. Wylie. Three medal rounds will be played during the next three weeks for the purpose of adjusting handicaps. All men’s competitions will be played on Sundays. Players playing competitions on Sunday mornings will have priority over all other players. The following is the draw for next Sunday:—A. Mortland, McGinniss and D. N. Somerville; James, Sutherland and Brewer; E. R. Sisson, C. Mortland and Savery; Gardner. Treadwell and Kendall; Neilsen, Kiely and A. C. O'Connor; Brophy, Barrell and Jones; Collerton, Kincaid and Little; Sinclair, Hay and Hintz: Quinn, Coutts and G. W. Ryan; R. Ryan, Arrowsmith and W. O’Connor; Spooner, Anderson and Esson; T. Collerton, B. E. Somerville and Seccombe; Belk, Ross and Auld: Weller. D. H. Sisson and McKay; Haddon, Fittal; and Wylie; Naylor, King ham and Reece. If any old players or new players have been omitted from the above draw will they olease come to the Clubhouse on Sunday, when games will be arranged for them. Handicaps will be posted in the clubhouse before next week-end. A men’s eclectic competition, played on handicap, is now open, and members may play for this competition at any time and as often as they please. An entry fee of 3d per card is charged. The draw for the ladies’ competitions will be published on Friday next.
