RANGITIKEI CRICKET

OLD BOYS AND I’OREWA WIN EASILY CENTURY TO M. WYSOCKI (O-C.) Marlon, March 9. A century not out to M. Wysocki, captain of the Old Boys’ eleven, was a feature of the penultimate series of cricket matches played in Marton this afternoon. Due to his score, Old Boys amassed 206 runs for the loss of six wickets before applying the closure and then disposed of Marton for 89 thus winning by 117. In the other match, Porewa just headed off High School to win by 36 runs in, a low scoring game. The best bowling performance also went to an Old Boys player, K. Kerr, who obtained five wickets for 21, his best effort of the season. The century collected bv Wysocki was the third scored in 'Rangitikei this Reason. The previous Saturday A. B. Marshall (Porewa) hit up an even 100 against Old Boys before retiring, and then early in the season D. A. Cameron (Porewa) reached 112 against Marton before retiring. Incidentally, all three players obtained their coveted centuries as opening batsmen.

Next Saturday will see the final series of matches played in the competition. By their win to-day Porewa seem assured of carrying off the championship for the season. MARTON v. OLD BOYS Wysocki's century occupied just over two hours, and it was scored in an aggressive manner. Sixty-four of his runs came from boundary shots and with I. Dickson (24), 75 runs were added for the fourth wicket. When the captain reached his threefigure score the innings was declared clo-ed for 206 runs for six wickets. D. Sladden (three for 42) was the best trundler for Marton. Marton opened disastrously, losing five for 15, and it appeared at one stage that a follow-on might be enforced. The batsmen found the bowling diificuit lo handle. However, the “tail” wagged to advantage and Marton’s last wicket fell for 89, of which N. Amon notched 29 in a sound knock. K. Kerr, J. Barnes and R. Fittler all obtained wickets rather cheaply. Two brilliant catches were accepted in the outfield, the first by W. Sanders and then J.
