NINE FIREMEN AWARDED SERVICE STARS
OFFICERS ELECTED AT ANNUAL CONFERENCE (P.A.) Gisborne, March 8. Gold stars for 25 years’ continuous service in lire brigades were presented to-day to nine members at the United Fire Brigades’ Conference by the Hon. B. C. Robbins, a past president of the association. The recipients were Messrs. C. Coxal (Reefton), H. M. Davidson (Hokitika). W. Jones (Westnort), E. Nelmes (Rangiora), L. S. Ross (Hokitika), J. Skeats (Cobden), C. H. Stokes (New Brighton), J. Vartha (Addington Railway), and V. S. Young (Taumarunui). The conference elected the following officers: President, Mr. E. O. Wallis (Gore); vice-presidents, Messrs. J. W. Kane (Gisborne) and L. Ross (Hokitika); treasurer-secretary, Mr. C. A. Osborne (OnehungaJ; auditor, Mr. D. F. Smith (Auckland). Mr. R. Henderson (Hastings) was created an honorary life member.
