BAND CONTESTS
r J _ 'HE prospective lodgment of applications for Wanganui to he chosen as the venue for the 1947 annual contests for brass and pipe bands has already created interest in the city. There is a strong support for all.band efforts m Wanganui, due to its traditional interest in band efforts and by reason of the success registered in the past by its local bandsmen. If these contests are to be held here during next year and this strong support is well organised, it is improbable that any other city could surpass Wanganui in catering for them. Long-range planning for these events is, however, essential and if an early commencement is made in this direction success can be regarded as a certainty to the degree that such a term is applicable to any human effort. Let Wanganui say with one of Shakespeare’s plays: “ ’Tis not in mortals to command success: let us do more, deserve it.”
