MARTON SWIMMING CLUB CLOSE FINISHES WITNESSED. No doubt due to the cold weather, there was not a very large attendance at the Marton Swimming Club’s meeting on Thursday night, but some finishes were witnessed. Following are the results:—Junior girls’ 25 yards: D. Taylor 1, J. Down 2. Junior boys’ 25 yards: L. Taylor 1, L. Dailey 2, P. Whale 3. Intermediate boys’ 75 yards: E. Gibbins 1, A. Cobham 2. V. Simcox 3. Intermediate girls’ 50 yards: H. Grtffin 1, M. Brown 2. Open girls' 25 > \-ds breaststroke: H. Griffin 1, M. Brown 2, V. Thomas 3. Junior girfl!' dive: D. Taylor 1, S. Burnard 2. To-day members of the Marton Club will travel to Taihape to compete against the Taihape Club. SWIMMING DEMONSTRATION. The latest methods of swimming instruction will be demonstrated to-mor-row afternoon at 3 o'clock, when the visiting instructor, Mrs. Ijah McCabe, will give a public demonstration in Ihe municipal baths. Mrs. McCabe, who is one of the most successful instructors in the Dominion, has for the past week been teaching children and instructing teachers of all the the Marton district schools. ST. ANDREW’S MEN’S CLUB.

St. Andrew's Men's Club will resume again on Wednesday, March 13, at 7.30 p.m. in St. Andrew's Hall. The speaker will be Mr. K. Dalrymple and his subject "Big Game Hunting and Fishing Overseas and in New Zealand.’’ The talk will be illustrated with scenes taken by Mr. Dalrymple on his own cine projector. A hearty invitation is given to men to be present. MARTON BRANCH PLUNKET SOCIETY.

PROCEEDS FROM STREET SALE. The committee of the Piunket Society acknowledges further donations from Mrs. A. Mclndoe, Mrs. K. Poppe and “Anonymous” which bring the gross total up to £163, Ils 4d. After deducting expenses totalling £5 19s 9d, made up as follows: Advance material needlework, £2 17s 9d, competition books £1 Ils 3d, advertising £1 4s, posters 6s 9d, the net profit is £157 Ils 7d, which is regarded as a very satisfactory effort. N.Z. NATIONAL PARTY. NORTH RANGITIKEI BRANCH. The annual general meeting of the North Rangitikei branch of the N.Z. National Party will be held in Mr. C. E. Darvill’s rooms, Taihape, on Wednesday, March 13, at 7.30 p.m. Mr. E. B. Gordon, M.P. for Rangitikei, and Mr. J. Caithness, chairman of the Rangitikei electorate, will address the meeting. MARTON FOOTBALL CLUB. The annual general meeting of the Marton Footba:* Club will be held in the Marton Club's rooms on Thursday, March 14, at 8 p.m. MARTON BOXING GYRI. The Marton Boxing Association announce that their gymnasium is now open, and anyone interested may contact Mr. B. Drew, manager and trainer. The gymnasium is located in the room previously occupied by the A.N.A. Club, in Broadway. INTER-CLUB TENNIS. An inter-club tennis match between Marton Club and Wanganui Lawn Tennis Association will be played tomorrow. Play will start at 10.30 a.m. and the Marton teams are: Men: J. Hutton, N. Ingle, H. Aidrich, 1, Rhodes, T. Dommett, B. Lawson. Women: Miss M. LeCren, Mrs. Wysocki, Mrs. McLennan, Misses M. Hutton, N. Hutton, and D. Broad. Transport will be by private car and members are requested to be at the Marton Post Office by 9.30 a.m. FOOD FOR BRITAIN APPEAL. A total of £5B 7s 3d has been contributed toward the Marton Sub-cen-tre Red Cross Society’s fpod-for-Britain appeal. Through the “Chronicle” the sub-centre acknowledges the following further donations: Previously acknowledged, £34 13s 6d: Mr. E. O. Pryce, £l3 2s 6d, Miss Howard £4 4s, Mrs. G. G.
