SUCCESS OF TROTTING MEETING
OUTSTANDING DEFICIT WIPED OUT At a recent meeting of the committee of the Wanganui Trotting Club, the secretary reported that the profit from the annual meeting, held in January, approximated £5OO. Total receipts from gates amounted to £957 10s 6(1, compared with £l7B 15s for the two days in January, 1940. Members’ subscriptions total £277 14s 6d, as against. £145 19s in 1940. The president, Dr. G. J. Adams, stated that the club was now in a position to pay off all old outstanding debts, which were inc urred as far back as 1925 and originally totalled £4OOO. He referred particularly to the very generous gesture of the Wanganui Jockey Club in placing its course and appointments at the club’s disposal free of cost for the recent meeting. The generous action of the Jockey Club in assisting a kindred sport was very much appreciated by the Trotting Club and all sportsmen throughout the district, said Dr Adams.
