MELBOURNE YEARLING SALES Recd. 7 p.m. Melbourne. March 7. An offering of 74 yearlings went for a total of 54,055 guineas at Newmarket. creating a record for the second day of the Melbourne sales. Forty-four yearlings have now been sold for prices of 1000 guineas or more. Top price to-day was a record, 4500 guineas being paid by E. J. on behalf of a patron, for the colt by Helios from Yetna. A colt which is a half-brother to the Derby winner Precept was offered by his breeder, Mr. J. E. Liston. Bidding .started at 2000 guineas and the price soon passed the 3600-guinea mark of the previous Victorian record, made two years ago. This colt was followed by the IleliosLineage filly at a price which equalled the record of 2800 guineas paid for Sleigh Bells last year. Another record was made when the matured chestnut filly by Kinderscout from Regalic was purchased by R. Cameron for 2900 guineas for Messrs. Bobden and Jones, owners of Tranquil Star.
