AMERICAN PROTEST
RUSSIAN CENSORSHIP IN HUNGARY Reed. 8.15 p.m. Budapest, March 7. The Associated Press yesterday filed a nrotest with Major-General Key. American member of the Allied Control Commission, against the Russian censorship of outgoing press despatches. The protest asserted that the Russian censor at the Budapest nost office had been withholding for fifteen days a despatch quoting American sources as saying that American oil properties in Hungary suffered £6.250,000,000 damages as a result of Russian operations. The story was held for twelve days before the Associated Press knew it had not been despatched.
The protest also claims that the Russian censor deleted parts of at least, two despatches regarding “complete Russian economic and political control of Hungary” and responsibility for delay in Cardinal Mindzenty’s departure for Rome.
