H.M.S. BLACK PRINCE TO VISIT DOMINION
LATEST BRITISH CRUISER (P.A.) Wellington, March 6. The Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones, announced to-day that information had been received from the flag officer, southern area, British Pacific Flee:, Vice-Admiral J. W. Rivett-Camac, C.8.E., D. 5.0., that he intends to sail in the cruiser H.M.S. Black Prince (Captain Gerald V. Gladstone, R.N.) to New Zealand to carry out the following cruise:— Arrive Dunedin April 24, depart April 28; arrive Timaru April 28, depart April 30; arrive Lyttelton April 30, depart May 4; arrive Wellington May 4, depart May 9; arrive Auckand May 11, depart Mav 15. Black Prince, of the improved Dido class, and one of the most moder" cruisers in the. Royal Navy, is of 7000 tons, has a length of 512 feet and a draft of 18 feet 7 inches She carries a company, of some 650 officers and men. She is armed with eight 5.251 n high and low angle guns, and some 30 smaller anti-aircraft guns. The object of the visit is so that the peonle of New Zealand mav become acoualnted with this tyne of ship, two of which will relieve H.M.N.Z. shins Gambia’ and Achilles in the near future.
