OBITUARY
MR. G. A. FERGUSON The death has occurred of Mr. George Ashton Ferguson, a weilknown resident of Ihe Mahora district. Born in Manchester. England, Mr. Ferguson was in his fifty-third year. In 1908 he joined the First porsetshire Regiment as a musician. Mr. Ferguson was married, in 1919, and came to NewZealand in 1923. He was prominent. In swimming circles, a keen worker for the scout movement, and a prominent, member of the Frimley Troop Committee. He was a member of the permanent staff of Nelson’s Ltd., Tomoana. Mr. Ferguson is survived by his widow and one son. MR. W. THOMAS. The death occurred in Levin on Monday of Mr. William Thomas, principal of Horowhenua College, after a Jengthy illness. Mr. Thomas went to Levin to take over the position of senior assistant of the secondary department of the former Levin District High School. When Horowhenua College was opened. *n 1940, he was appointed the first principal. In this position he played an outstanding part in the preparation of Ihe syllabus and the organisation of the school In spite of war-time obstacles. He exercised a wonderful influence over the college, the success of which is a tribute to his work.
