FOOTBALL CLUB REVIVED (0.C.) * Hunterville, March 6. There is possibly no football club in , Rangitikei which can boast of such a proud record as that at Rata. Twenty vears ago, and for several years after that, it was sweeping all before it and at least two players, Paddy Potaka and Peina, won places in the Maori All Blacks. For some years prior to World War 11., the club struck a lean patch and then went, into recess for the war neriod. To-day, however, the old enthusiasm has been reborn. The club was revived at a largely-attended meeting the other evening and a senior team is to be fielded in this season’s competition. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr. J. Gibbs: chairman. Mr. F. Spooner; secretary, Mr. R. W. Gillon; delegate Io union, Mr. J. Hartley: committee, Messrs. J. Taiuru. C. Wright, W. I. Downs. W. Tolley and J. Hartley: selector. Mr. J. Taiuru; club captain. Mr. E. S. Pickford; coach, Mr. W. T. Downs. Over 25 members attended a working bee an the ground at the weekend and training is to commence almost immediately AFTER-SPORTS DANCE As a fitting wind-un to the successful sports meeting on Saturday a dance was held in the Memorial Hall in the evening, under the auspices of the Young People’s- Club. ThAre was a large attendance and as the result the Patriotic Fund benefited to the extent of £24. Music was supplied by Marks' Orchestra (Marton), while Mr. Errol Pickford was M.C.
