Irvine, of the British Army, and deputy-provost marshal in Berlin, pleaded guilty to charges of conduct prejudicial to good order and military discipline before a courtmartial in Hanover. The prosecution alleged that Irvine used his official position to do favours for German civilians, and also stated that he employed a German woman as an informant and subseuently gave her a car and requisitioned a private house which was used for parties.
