WOMEN’S SECTION ANNUAL MEETING ADDRESS BY MR. SHEAT, M.P. Presided over by Miss Elaine Newton, the annual meeting of the women's section of the National Party in Wanganui was held yesterday afternoon in Dustin’s looms. There was a large attendance. Miss Newton expressed gratification at the attendance and welcomed the guest speaker, Mr. W. A. Sheat, M.P. for Patea, and Mrs. Sheat. Mr. W. E. Robbie, president of the Wanganui branch of the National Party, was also present. The election of officers resulted: President, Miss E. Newton (reelected): committee, Mesdames Halligan, Robbie, Craig, Wall, Hine. Ryan, Glasgow, A. Wilson. Dalgety, McLean, Jenkins, McCaul. 11. D. Robertson, Kirk, Cross, Hackshaw, Nancarrow. SHEAT “It is very gratifying to see such a large and enthusiastic meeting,” said Mr. Sheat. He congratulated the Wanganui women’s section on their progressive spirit and said it. was indicative of a keen interest in the party’s activities.

Mentioning the Raglan .by-election, Mr. Sheat said it was a notable wm for the National Party and an indication of the change that would take place at the coming general elections this year. Mr. Sheat said he knew Mr. Hally burton Johnstone, the success ful candidate, personally, and he was sure he would be a decided acquisition to the party. The impending visit to Wanganui of Mr. S. G. Holland, Leader of the National Party, was mentioned by Mr. Sheat, who made a strong appeal to members to attend Mr. Holland’s meeting in large numbers and thus show a live spirit in the affairs of the party. The speaker dealt with a wide range of subjects, including shopping hours and the baking question. He criticised the Government lor bringing down important measures tn lhe final hours of the session and rushing legislation through without giving time for full discussion and consideration for affected parties. On the motion of Mr. Robbie. Mr. Sheat was given a hearty vote or thanks.
