SURRENDER IN SIAM

JAPANESE BOW BEFORE UNION JACK TWO GENERALS WEEP Recd. 6 p.m. London, Jan. 14. Two Japanese generals, former commanders in Siam, wept as they saluted the British flag and handed over their swords to a British general in the surrender ceremony al Bangkok, says Reuter’s Singapore correspondent. TXventy Japanese generals and admirals surrender'd their swords and with bared heads bowed low before the Union Jack while hundreds of British and Indian soldiers looked on. Lieut.-General Kimura, commander of the 4th Japanese Division, struggled for half a minute with his belt before he was able to extract his sword and place it on the table, which was decorated with the Union Jack, the Old Glory, and the Dutch flag. One commander who ignored the flagstaff ceremony was brought back by a British major and forced to go through with it.
