HEAD OF U.N.R.R.A. IN EUROPE
LIEUT-GENERAL MORGAN TO REMAIN CRITICISM CAUSED BY HYSTERIA OF PRESS
Recd. 9.15 p.m. London, Jan. 15. Lieut.-General Morgan, whose resignation was requested ten days ago by U.N.R.R.A. headquarters in Washington, intends to remain at the head of U.N.R.R.A. operations in Europe, reports the “Daily Telegraph.” An analysis of criticism of Lieut.General Morgan’s statement on the movement of Jews from Poland reveals that they were based on the phraseology of the statement rather than its substance, says the newspapei. The fact of ihe westward movement of Jews was not disputed, nor was the fact that many of them were financed by a Zionist, source. Tne objections were to ihe phrases "second exodus” and "pockets stuffed with money.” These objections are not considered sufficient justification, however, for hounding an able man out. of office, says the "Telegraph.” It is now recognised to be due to hysteria caused by a certain section of the American Press. It is gen orally realised now that Lieut.-General Morgan is a big enough man tn have refused to be bounced into resignation on wholly inadequate grounds. The clamour against him has been in many way., artificially stimulated. It is not. supported by the administrators of Germany or by Jewish relief organisations
