SENTENCED TO DEATH
JAPANESE REAR-ADMIRAL Recd. 10.30 p.m. Sydney, Jan. 15. Rear-Admiral Hamanaka, of the Japanese Navy, has been sentenced to death by shooting, by a military court at Morotai. The court added a recommendation for mercy.
Hamanaka was found guilty of ordering the killing of Australian prisoners of war, and with ill-treat-ment of prisoners. The same tribunal found Commander Baron Takasaki not guilty on the sar.ie charges.
