COLONEL K. H. PACKWOOD DUE IN N.Z. TO-DAY (P A.) Auckland, Jan. 9. Recently appointed Auckland district engineer for the Public Works Department, Colonel R. H. Packwood is expected to arrive in Auckland tomorrow by flying boat after about six years service overseas.
Colonel Packwood went overseas in command of a survey company formed as pa.t of the Second Echelon, and was later appointed to a British formation. He served in India, and was lately Direetci o' Works on'a British establishment there. In 1941 he was promote 1 from major to lieutenantcolonel, while he was assistant director of works, and to colonel in the following year. He was awarded the 0.8. E. in 1942.
One of the best known departmental engineers in New Zealand. Colonel Packwood, whose home is at Remuera, was Public Works Department engineer at Whangarei at the time of his appointment to the Expeditionary Force. Among the many important works of which he was in charge were the Westfield deviation and the Waterfront Road construction.
