STRONGER MEASURES IN JAVA
DUTCH ADMIRAL AGREES WITH BRITISH Recd. 6 p.m. Batavia, Jan. 7 Admiral Helfrich, who is vacating the post of commander-in-chief of the Netherlands forces in the East «o become commander-in-chief of the Dutch navies, in an order of the day to his military forces, ;aid he agreed completely ’with the stronger measures which the Allied commander, General Christison, had recently put into effect, and criticised Dutch military personnel who have offended agains. law and order. Admiral Helfrich, in the order, said: "Reports have reached me of aggression by iome of you which is in complete discord with the dignity of military standards, certainly at a time when civilians as well as military personnel are in uncertainty as to friend or foe, and when law and order therefore hang very much in lhe balance." Admiral Helfrich celled for eeiicontrol and good discipline, and said that unworthy behaviour would be very severly punished.
