SOVIET-CONTROLLED JEWS DISAPPEAR

Recd. 6 p.m. London, Jan. 7. Fourteen hundred Polish Jews disappeared from the Brandenburger Stresse Hotel after the Russian order that they should be removed to a camp at Preenzlau, says. Reuters Berlin correspondent. Municipal officials, who arrived this morning, arrived with transport and three days’ rations for the inmates, found the building completely empty except, ror a German charwoman cleaning up.

The correspondent says the Jews scattered over Berlin, presumably in lhe British, American and French sectors, after the receipt of the Russian order.

Refugees at another centre in the Russian sector, where six German policemen were on duty to prevent them leaving last night, stormed the exit, swept aside the unarmed police and escaped. Reuter's correspondent in Warsaw i eports that the central committee of Polish Jews has appealed to Jews to remain in Poland, where a tendency towards a mass exodus was spreading. The committee said it realised that an attitude of panic among the Jewish population was largely the result of criminal assault against Jews in some towns and villages, but pointed out that similar criminal acts had been committed against democratic leaders in Poland. It is confident that the Polish Government would punish the offenders, and the committee was convinced that, irrespective of their political opinions. Jews connected with Poland would continue to build their lives t*-ere.
