END OF SCHOOL YEAR

KAITOKE, MOSSTON AND CASTLECUI F

A large gathering of parents and friends attended the annual concert and dance held by the Kaitoke School to mark the end of the school year. In spite of the measles epidemic having interfered with the preparation of items, an attractive programme was presented by the children. Following the opening songs by all the pupils Suzanne Roache and Jeannette McLean danced to music by Miss Swan. The juniors then performed a scene from Winnie-the-Pooh, “Eeyore Loses a Tail,” the owl, bear and eeyore appropriately costumed and in a painted forest. Six senior girls were applauded for their appearance and acting as adults in a long play, “A Song of Sixpence,” and Sandards 2 and 4 boys and girls in an amusing exhibition of dumb show portrayed a gruesome surgical operation. The secretary of the Kaitoke School Committee, Mr. R. W’. Frost, thanked the headmaster, Mr. D. Hay, Mrs. Hay, and Mrs. Fraser for producing the concert, and then presented each child with a book. Dancing filled the remainder of an enjoyable evening. MOSSTON SCHOOL The Mosston School’s break up took the form of a fancy dress party, ai which parents and friends were entertained with items from the children. The concert programme closed with everyone singing Christmas carols. The chairman of the school committee, Mr. J. Creasdale, presented Form II certificates to Patricia Henderson, Telma Pauli, Marjorie Wallace, Max Hood, and Adam Shaw. Supper was served by the ladies’ committee, afterwhich toys from the Xmas tree were distributed. CASTLECLIFF SCHOOL A boy and a girl tied for the dux of school award at Castlecliff. Medals presented by the chairman of the school committee, Mr. J. Gaskin, were awarded to Valarie Langridge and Ronald Potaka on Thursday afternoo-a when brief addresses were given by the Rev. J. F. Martin and the headmaster, Mr. E. W. Morris.
