Two Germans were sentenced to death for instigating a mob of civilians to commit violence against three British airmen who baled out after bombing Essen. The prosecution said that Erich, heir to the former Wermacht captain, who was in charge of the escort for the captured fliers, encouraged the crowd lo stone and beat the prisoners, finally flinging them from a 60foot bridge. Two remained alive after the fall and were killed by shots fired from the bridge. Three other Germans concerned in the incident were sentenced to life, ten years and five years, respectively. Two were found not guilty.
