TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD

CHRISTMAS PARTY AT CASTLECLIFF The monthly meeting and Christmas party of the guild was held in the Town Hall, when members of other organisations were welcomed by the president, Mrs. Paul. Two new members were enrolled. Mesdames Rountree, McFarlane, and Cox celebrate their birthdays this month. They received sprays and were accorded musical honours. Roll call was "Sing, say, whistle or pay.’’ Mrs. Rivers and Mrs. Bates kindly judged the sugar bag articles and results were: Apron, Mrs. Paul 1, Mrs. Harwood 2; oven cloth, Mrs. Knox 1, Mrs. Paul 2. The flowers were judged by popular vote and resulted: Best bowl ot flowers, Mrs. Anthony 1, Mrs. Knox 2; best vase ot flowers, Mrs. Anthony 1, Mrs. Paul and Mrs. Harwood 2 (equal). Aggregate points prize was won by Mrs. Paul with 10 first and* 9 seconds. The stage was decorated with flags and bunting by Captains Knox and Stewart and made a bright background for Mrs. Potaka's Maoris children’s choir who presented two action songs. Songs were contributed by Mesdames Dutty and Atkinson, who received sprays. The afternoon tea tables were decorated with flowers in the guilds colours and members of the committee were hostesses. A bring and buv stall was in charge ot Mesdame; McFarlane, Cox and Harwood and was well patronised. The meeting closed with the National Anthem.
