HOUSE-HUNTING IN SYDNEY
FORMER WANGANUI EDITOR MISSES A CARAVAN Headed, “The Early Bird Catches the Caravan,” a panel in the current issue of the “New Zealand Journalist” tells the story of how a former Wanganui editor tried to solve the housing problem. “House-hunting in Sydney is even more of an ordeal than in some of New Zealand’s larger cities,” says the "Journalist.” “Mr. W. H. Bickley, former editor of the “Wanganui Heiald,” and before that a reporter in Wellington and Christchurch, who recently went to a job on the “Sydney Morning Herald,” had novel ideas on the subject of accommodation for himself and his family—but they didn't get him a roof. “According to a fellow New Zealander in Sydney, ‘Bick’ followed up a clue for a house-boat, and another one for a caravan. ’Like everything else one can live in,* wrote the ‘Journalist’s’ informant, ‘the caravan with two horses, was sold at the crack of dawn—to someone else.’ “Mr. E. H. S. Miller, formerly of ‘The Dominion,’ who went to the ‘S.M.H.’ a few weeks ago, is a happy man. He’s got a flat—and it's not expensive, oil her.''
