WEDDING
WHITE—HILLIER. The wedding took place at All Saints’ Church, Wanganui East, on October 27, of Mavis Ruby, only daughter of Mrs. Hillier and the late Mr. J. A. Hillier, Duncan Street. Wanganui East, and Athol Lyall, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. White, College Street, Wanganui. The Rev. J. C. A. Cole officiated. Mrs. Holmes was the organist. A lovely gown of white embossed cloque was worn by the bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. B. C. Hillier. A deep yoke with frilled outline* fashioned the top of the frock, which was close fitting into a hip yoke, and the full skirt formed a graceful long train. Her veil (lent by Mrs. S. Cairncross) was of embroidered soft tulle, and she carried a bouquet of white roses, lily of the valley, and stock, shaded white to cream.
The bridesmaid, Miss Linda White, sister of the bridegroom, wore a frock of blue cloque fashioned on similar lines to the bride’s gown, and carried a bouquet of roses and sweet peas in of light rose to flame. LA.C. Barry Prichard was best man. The ushers were Lieutenant A. Noel Dyson and Mr. Peter Davies.
A reception was held at the Virginia Lake Kiosk, where Mrs. Hillier received the guests with the bridegroom’s mother. Mrs. Hillier wore a navy suit with lace vest, matching navy accessories, and a spray of deep cream roses. Mrs. C. R. White was wearing a navy suit, matching accessories and spray of pink rosebuds. The table decorations were of lily of the valley and blue flowers. For going away the bride chose a tan costume, deep cream blouse and accessories and grey overcoat.*
