MANAWATU FINALISTS

WOMEN’S BOWLING TOURNEY • CONCLUDES

Two Manawatu pairs contested the final of the Manawatu and West Coast Women’s Bowling Centre tournament yesterday afternoon on the St. John’s Bowling Club’s green, the winners being Mesdames Graham and Wackrow (Takaro Club), who defeated Mesdames Turner and Scales (Terrace End) by 24 to 22. In the semi-finals Mesdames F. Graham and Wackrow defeated Mesdames Bishop and Waskett (Hokowhitu) and Mesdames Turner and Scales won from Mesdames Joyce and Pluck (Wanganui). The weather for the final day’s play was fire and post-section play was followed with keen interest by a large number of spectators. The first round of post-section play was contested by the eight leading pairs, resulting:--Bishop ano Waskett won from Conners and Sollitt (Castlecliff) 22 to 7; Graham and Wackrow (Takaro) won from Gaunt and Dennison (Wanganui), 18 to 5; Turner and Scales (Terrace End > won from McCarthy and Logan (Napier), 17 to 12; Joyce and Pluck (Wanganui) won from Turner and Pettitt (CastleelilT), 17 to 12. A i t the conclusion of L>lay, after congratulating the winers. the president, Mrs. E. P. Allan, thanked all those who had worked so hard to make lhe tournament a success, and also expressed appreciation of the assistance of Mr. A. W. Jones as umpire. Appreciation of lhe hospitality accorded them in Wanganui was expressed by Mrs. Woodroffe (Palmerston North) on behalf if the visitors.
