WAGON DERAILED

MISHAP ON OKOIA HILL EARLY TRAINS DELAYED Through railway traffic between Marton and Wanganui was dislocated for about live hours early yesterday morn.ng as the result ol a doublebogie wagon loaded with cheese being patially derailed on the Okoia “bank.” The mishap occurred at about 1.30 а. and the wagon, consigned from Patea to Wellington, was attached to a freight train which left Wanganui at 12.25 a.m. The leading wheels left the rails as the train was climbing the steep gradient between Okoia and Fordell. No damage was done to the permanent way, but jacking the loaded wagon, weighing 35 tons, back on to the line presented some difficulties and the track was not clear again till б. a.m.

In the meantime passengers for Wanganui who arrived at Marton junction early yesterday morning by the first express from Auckland, and also by a relief express, travelled by train as far as Turakina, where they were transhipped by buses to Wanganui, arriving at Wanganui no later than they would have done by train under normal circumstances. Freight trains running between Wanganui and Marton early yesterday morning were considerably delayed, but the mixed service leaving Wanganui at 6.20 a.m. for Palmerston North was not affected.
