MANAWATU MIDSUMMER PROGRAMME

With stakes for the three days totalling £10,850, the Manawatu Racing Club has issued an attractive programme for its summer meeting, to be held on the Awapuni racecourse on December 26 (Boxin.g Day), 27 and 29. As it will be followed by three days’ racing at Marton and one at Bulls, the latter meetings should profit through the generous stakes offered at Awapuni.

Two four-figure events will be featured, these being the Manawatu Cup (£1500) on the opening day and the Louisson Memorial (£100) bn the second d,<, the corresponding event, on the final day being the Freyherg Handicap (£800). In all there will be nine open races, the seven-furlong sprints being worth £6OO, £5OO and £5OO respectively, and the others, with the minimum weight 7.11, each worth £450.

The stake in each of the juvenile events will be £3OO, the race on the first day being for fillies exclusively and that on the second dav for colts and geldings. The highweight events (for hurdlers and ’chasers) will each be worth £3OO. and each of the maiden races £250.
