ARABS AND JEWS BOTH DISAPPOINTED
London, Nov. 14 Both Arabs and Jews not enthusiastic over Mr. Bevin’s Palestine statemen ” says “The Exchange Telegraphs” Jerusalem correspondent. Arab leaders are not concealing their disappointment that the White Paper'provisions are virtually scrapped in the British Government’s new policy. The Jews feel they have been let down and that the White Paper has been maintained insofar as the new policy requires Arab acquiescence for further Jewish immigration. Mr. J. V. Shaw, officer administering Palestine, visited Emir Abdullah at Transjordan yesterday and presented him the new Palestine proposal. Latet he attended separate meetings of Arab and Jewish leaders and read them the text of Mr. Bevin’s House of Commons statement. Doctor Khalidi, leader of the Palestine Areform party stated; “I accuse the British Government of breaking the White Paper promise. It seems to me the new policy’s ultimate aim is the creation of a Jewish State.”
Reuters Cairo correspondent says Mr. Bevin s statement was sent to all the Arab States, where it is being examined. The Egyptian Arab leaders are not prepared to comment on the statement. It is a general impression that they are disappointed. The heads of the delegations to the Arab League meet today to discuss Mr. Bevin’s statement. It Is believed the Jews may make an even stronger protest than the Arabs.
Consultations will start in Washington and I-onden without delay to select the Brit.sh-American Committee of Inquiry into Palestine, says the “Daily Mails” diplomatic correspondent.
The committee will consist of at least 20 members, ten of whom will be from each country. All the parties in the House of Commons will be represented in th? British delegation. It is assumed in London that Republicans. as well as Democrats will be invited to serve on the American delegation. Each country will nominate a chairmen to preside in rotation. Cabinet will select an administrator of wide experience in Empire affairs es the British delegation’s chairman.
The British Government’s present desire is that the committee should be cf such size that it could be divided into several sub-committc?s to pecific investigations could be allotted.
