RETURNED SERVICES GOLF TOURNEY
EXCELLENT ENTRIES FOR TO-MORROW Excellent entries have been received for the Returned Services’ Golf Tournament on Saturday. Players from Karioi and Taihape will be present and the list contains an excellent entry from servicemen of this war. Competition for the Tin Hat championship should be keen with players of the calibre of A. R. Kitto, C. N. Armstrong, J. Goss, A. E. Ekstedt, F. H. Bell, W. J. Forsyth, and others. Last year’s winner, B. H. Silk, will be absent, being with the 2nd N.Z.E.F. in Italy. His performance m leading the field at the tournament in Rome is fieing watched with keen interest. Joe Williams, a stalwart of ths Rifle Brigade, has donated a handsome gong for the Services’ Stroke match, to" be played on handicap, the trophy is on display in J. Goss and Son’s window. Following is the programme: Tin Hat championsip, best gross score; Services’ Stroke Handicap (J. Williams’ trophy), best nett score; Ist N.Z.E.F. Stroke Handicap (trophy—< gong and shield); 2nd N.Z.E.F. Stroke Handicap (trophy—gong and shield); Navv and Air Force Stroke Handicap (trophy—gong and shield); N.A.A.E.I. Scramble (trophy—photos of winning team). The four lowest gross scores of entrants in any of the above three handicap events wins the Scramble; Mug’s Trophy, highest gross score.
The committee of the tournament has decided that t|jere will be no more than eight strokes a hole, and then pick up to save time. Placings will be allowed on fairways within six inches.
