ELECTION TO-NIGHT
WANGANUI TROTTING CLUB COMMITTEE With six nominations for the four vacancies on the committee, there will be- an election at the annual general meeting of the Wanganui Trotting Club, to be held in the Jockey Cluo board room to-night. Of eight, members of the committee four retire in rotation, these being Messrs. E. Falconer, C. Aitken, B. M. Leigh and G. W. Perrett. Messrs. Aitken and Leigh have again been nominated, ias also have Messrs. S. Dustin, H. S. Harman, A. F. Nickoils and F. C. Wilson, necessitating an election by ballot. Dr. G. J. Adams the retiring president, was the only nominee for that position, and the three retiring vicepresidents, Messrs. B. R. Dobbs, A. G. Mills and P. Carmichael, have again been nominated for office. Mr. R. V. Brown is also the sole nominee for the position of honorary treasurer, an office he has filled in the past. With a two-day trotting meeting to be held in January, probably on Anniversary Day (January 22) and Saturday, January 26, interest in the light - harness sport is being revived in Wanganui, and this increased interest will no doubt be reflected in the attendance at the annual meeting to-night.
A special message from London stales that congratulation poured in on Gordon Richards, who recently lode his 3000th winner since 1922. Now aged 41, he has been the year’s champion jockey on 18 occasions. He is a non-smoker, non-drinker, rides ar average of 20 miles daily, and rides in between 900 and 1000 races annually His weight remains steady at eight stone. Regarded as the greatest English jockey of all time, he earns more than Mr. Attlee and Mr. Churchill together.
