LABOUR PARTY DESIRES A REPORT WHAT SERVICES DO THE PAPERS RENDER? (P.A.) Wellington. Nov. 14 A report on the newspapers of the Dominion and the services they give, is to be obtained by the Labour Party from its executive. The annua! conference of the Party to-night adopted the following resolution:— "That this conference direct the incoming execu live to set up a committee to report to the next conference on the Press of the Dominion, the reliability, or otherwise, of the news service it gives, and its performance in general, of the functions it at present monopolizes, and also to make recommendations, as it deems •advisably, to safeguard the interests of lhe public in regard to the news service it has to accept.” Dissatisfaction within the Labour Party over the management of broadcasting was brought to a head to-night in a motion before the conference proposing that the broadcasting service should no longer be controlled by one director. There \wis vigorous discussion, during which the present system of management was under criticism from several quarters. The conference refused to adopt a recommendation for a change. A remit from one of the party branches proposing that the "Man in the Street” session be reinstated was not supported bv the Education and Publicity Committee in its recommwdations to the conference, but instead it was proposed that an internal newsservice be operated. This step was approved.
