FEBRUARY CARNIVAL

PLANS WELL ADVANCED Plans for the carnival to be held in February next ai'e well advanced, according to a report submitted by the Tourist, Publicity and Development committee at a recent meeting of the Wanganui City Council. The committee stated that it had again conferred with representatives of the Wanganui Council of Amateur Sport for the purpose of discussing the programme and other details. ‘

"The spirit manifested throughout the conference was one of mutual cooperation which augurs well for the success of the carnival," the report stated. “The committee has reviewed the list of sports fixtures which have been agreed on and notes with keen satisfaction that the New Zealand rowing championships have been allocated to the city for February, 1946.” The committee added that it was pleasing to note that other national fixtures and sports gatherings had been arranged for Wanganui during that period. It had been tentatively decided that a grand finale should be held on the last, night of the carnival, March 2, when the gross proceeds would accrue to the committee. Sub-committees set in conjunction with the carnival are:— Public Entertainment (“High Jinks’’): Crs. A. R. Donaldson and S. J. Harris and Mr. B. R. Dobbs. Finance: Crs E. W. Merewether (chairman) and A J. Pritchard and Mr. P. D. England. Accommodation: Cr. R. P. Andrews and Messrs. W. J. Gilbert and C. G. Rhimes. Advertising: Messrs. Seivewright, Young and Jlall To all these committees two members of the Council of Amateur Sport, yet to be nominated, will be added. Another aspect of the carnival to be considered is that of arranging special river excursions.
