“OUR MISS GIBBS”

TWO UNDERSTUDIES DO WELL Another appreciative audience greeted the musical play “Our Miss Gi'bbs” at tjie Opera House last night. The play will show for the last time to-night. There are plenty of 3s seats available for to-night and may be booked. It is interesting to know that two understudies have been called upon to appear in the show, called at short notice, too. Just as in professional companies sickness lays its hand upon the east and chorus, and in amateur theatricals the call of work sometimes interferes with not only rehearsals but the presentations of the show itself. This applies equally to principals and chorus. “Our Miss Gibbs” has been fortunate in this respect. All the principals got through without mishap, but there were two changes necessary in the ensembles. One of the bridesmaids fell ill shortly before the curtain rose on the first night, and Cecily Greagor, at short notice, took the part, playing in it splendidly, adding another to those younger artists upon whom the society will call in the future. One of "Tlte Dudes,” Grant Toop. was unable to remain in Wanganui this week, and, with only one rehearsal, Len . oughlin filled the vacancy with credit to himself and his team. Male parti, are difficult to fill in musical comedy, but it is believed that when the curtain rises on the next show in Wanganui there will be an increasing number of young men available. The six (it now should be seven) "Dudes” in “Our Miss Gibbs” led the chorus well. It took some courage'on their part to begin a revival for men of musical comedy work, and it will be interesting to see how their lead will be followed.
