MARTON BOROUGH
MEETING OF COUNCIL (0.c.) Marton, Nov. 14. At a meeting of the Marton Borough Council to-night permission was granted the Marton Athletic and Cycling Club to use Marton Park for sports meetings under the usual terms and conditions. The Marton Junction School’s application to use the baths on three afternoons weekly for instruction purposes during the swimming season was referred to the Baths Committee. The secretary of the Marton Rotary Club advised that members would be pleased to co-operate with the council in any improvements to be carried out at the Victory Hall site and the adjoining section. The letter was referred to the Works Committee. A request that a footpath be constructed opposite his premises In Roberts Street was forwarded by Mr. W. S. Hawkins, who offeerd to pay half the cost of the work. The council agreed to the request and accepted the offer. Permission was granted the J. C. Williamson Picture Corporation to screen a picture on Christmas Day, commencing at 8.15 p.m. A complaint from W. E. Cole that a blocked drain on the council’s property at the upper reservoir caused flood water to run on his property was referred to the Works Committee, together with Mr. Brant's report on the position of the caretaker of the filters. It was decided to inform the Automobile Association (Wanganui) that the camp site would not be available for use during the summer months. A report from the superintendent of the Marton Fire Brigade urged th« necessity of providing a fire escape at Devonport Buildings, High Street. The report was referred to Cr. K. A. Williams. An application from Mr. E. C. Nitschke for an extra water trough on his property. Pukepapa Road, was referred to the Works Committee. Mr. F. Purnell (Mayor) presided over Crs. K. A. Williams. K. H Fowler, W. J. Mogridge, A. Gracie, A. Todd, E. C. Fogelberg J. Caithness. J. R. Howard, and C. C. McDonald (town clerk). The town clerk reported that the receipts for the month were £2157 17s Id, including Town Hall, £B3 14s 6(1; water, £173 7 S 10d; rates. £986 9s 9d; gas account, £7lB 9s lOd; building permits, £216.
