R.S.A. GOLF TOURNEY
ENTRIES COMING IN
Entries for the annual returned, services golf tournament at Belmont on Saturday are coming to hand freely, and it is anticipated that this year will break all records. An energetic committee has arrangements well in hand, and given a line day all participants should enjoy a good day’s sport. With the close of the war large entries are expected from the 2nd N.Z.E.F., Navy and Air Force. The year 1943 saw the first entries from the present war, and as time marches on it is apparent that the “old brigade” will recede to the background and the younger generation will carry on. Memories date back to the first tournament, held in September, 1934, and subsequent tournaments. Several of those present at the first tournament have answered the last “roll call”—“Tiger" Sealy, Len Whelan, Ernie Tustin, G. B. Moyle, and others. Frank Turnbull presided at the first tournament and will again be on deck on Saturday. Popular with the old “Diggers,” his personality will impress the "Kiwis.” No tournament is complete without the genial colonel and his presence was missed during the years he was O.C. Panakura Camp. A nominal fee of 2s 66d will be charged to players and camp followers alike.
