NEW RETORTS FOR GAS WORKS
Because of some difficulty in obtaining the necessary export licences in Australa, the contract for constructing now retorts at the Municipal Gas Works had been delayed, but the outlook had since improved and it should be possible to make a start with the work in the near future, stated the Gas Committee in a report adopted by the Wanganui City Council at its monthly meeting last night. The committee added that the engineer and manager, Mr. W. J. Stone, had submitted a report recony mending that in order to improve the pressure of gas in the supply area, particularly in the suburbs at weekends. a new gas compressor costing approximately £2700 be purchased and installed./ "'
