SANSON NOTES

THE TENNIS CLUB . (0.C.) Sanson, Nov. 6. The first meeting of the tennis cluo since the start of the war was held recently, when there was a good attendance. The report stated that of the two playing courts one was of need of substantial repair before it could be used for play, and it was estimated that £lOO would be required to be spent in this direction. An energetic committee was set up to get the work under way, and for the purpose of raising funds to further the project it was decided to hold a series of functions throughout the year, and for the present to use the one court only. The election of officers for the year was as follows: Patron, Mr. A. H. Sanson; president Mr. A. Nesbit; vicepresidents, Messrs. R. Nicol, L. Staite and N. Butler; secretary, Mr. F. Meyer; club captain, Mr. K. Lumsden, vice-captain, Mrs. O’Regan; ladies’ captain, Miss M. Richardson. The dance organised by the tennis club was well attended and will shortly be followed by another function. COUNTY EMPLOYEES’ CLUB The Manawatu County Council Employees' Social Club having been in recess during the war period, recommenced social activities with a smoke concert on Saturday last. Owing to wet weather and several employees, having prior engiagements, the attendance was not exactly up to expectations, but’ nevertheless the evening certainly went with a swing, under the lead of a small entertainment party from Feilding. The evening opened with the Royal toast, proposed by Mr. G. Richardson, followed by that of the “Council and ex-Councillors,” proposed by the county engineer (Mr. H. V. Bond) and replied to by the county chairman (Mr. R. Craig). “Employees and ex-Employpes" was proposed by Councillor B. Henderson and responded to by Mr. S. Hickford. “Employees and ex-Employees" of the armed forces was proposed by Mr. E. N. Rowe, and replied to by Capt. F. J. Murphy. “Artists and Visitors" was proposed by Mr. S. Scandlyn and responded to by Mr. Bramwell. “Absent Comrades" was proposed by Mr. G. Drew. The committee responsible for the arrangements, under the capable leadership of the chairman, Mr. G. Richardson, and the secretary, Mr. E. N. Butler, is to be congratulated on its efforts in connection with the function. It is the intention of the social club to hold the annual picnic towards the end of January next year.
