MARTON NOTES

N.Z.R.3.A. BADGES

The secretary of the Marton R.S.A. (Mr. S. H. Denbow) has received advice from the N.Z.R.S.A. that the number of re-issue badges approved from the Ist. to the 30th. April was found to be 2396, with no indication of an> reduction in the rate of loss. With this in mind, the Dominion Executive (Committee considered that, under existing conditions, it had a duty to pay special attention to the requirements of new members and it therefore “decided “that meantime no further reissues will be approved.” The matter will be kept constantly under review and this restriction removed as soon as possible. Applications now on hand at Dominion headquarters, those in transit, and those actually accepted by local associations will be dealt with, but from the time of receipt of this circular and until further notice no (applications for re-issue of badges are to be accepted. It is again emphasised that any of the simple precautions to ensure the safety of badges which have been brought to the notice of local associations from time to time by circular and nublished in the “Review.” have definitely indicated that they are completelv effective. MARTON ATHLETIC CLUB’S DANCE The Marton Athletic and Cycling Club will hold its first annual dance in the Victory Hall, Marton, on Saturday, November 17. Pompey Durie’s orchestra will supply the music and novelty dances and a first-class supper will be featured. BULLS ROSE SHOW The annual rose show, at Bulls, under the auspices of St. Andrew’s Church, Bulls, and St. Martin’s Church, Greatford, will be held in the Bulls Town Hall on Monday, November 19. from 1 to 6 p.m. Work, garden, cake and produce stalls, laden with goods of all descriptions will be a special attraction. TUTAENUI WD.F.U. A meeting was held in the Tutaenui Hall on November 1, Mrs. G. Oliver presiding. After the creed, the minutes were read and confirmed and correspondence dealt with. It was proposed by Mrs. Stafford that the branch should hold a flower show as in former years, either late in February or early in March. A provisional schedule was drawn up and final details will be settled later when the dates of other show fixtures are known. It was decided that at the December meeting members would stage an exhibition of handwork. It is hoped every member will compete and any article (or articles) may be entered provided it is personally made by the exhibitor. At the conclusion of the business Mrs. Oliver expressed the general regret of the members at the departure of Mrs. C. Gower from the district. Mrs. Gower was an original member of the branch and, as a memento, Mrs. (Oliver presented her with a tea cosy .and a shoulder spray, wishing her •every happiness in her new home. Mrs. Gower thanked everyone for their good wishes and hoped to be able to keep in occasional contact with the branch. As a competition it was suggested that members should compose a limerick using Mrs. Gower’s name. This caused much amusement and, by (popular vote, Miss W. Stafford proved the winner with a very good effort. The entries were given to Mrs. Gower to remind her of the occasion. The apron competition was won by Mrs. L. Duckworth and the hostesses for the next meeting will be Mesdames Hawkins, Clegg and Vile. FIRE BRIGADE EUCHRE
