RABBIT CONTROL
BOARDS OPPOSE HANDING OVER TO COUNTIES (P.A.) Invercargill, Nov. 9. Opposition to a recommendation by the Local Government Committee whose report now before Parliament that rabbit boards should be absorbed by county councils was expressed by speakers at a meeting of the Southland Rabbit. Board's Council. It. was stated that it would be impossible for county councils to do the work as successfully as the present boards. The following resolution will be forwarded to the Government: “That the Southland Rabbit Board’s Council, embracing all 15 boards in Southland, is stronglv opposed to a recommendation in the report, before Parliament of the Committee appointed to investigate local body affairs, that rabbit boards should be absorbed bv county councils, and earnest lv urges the Government against interference in any wav with the present constitution or adsorbed bv countv councils, and earnestly urges the Government against interference in any way with the present constitution or administration of the boards which are making worthy progress towards thn eradication of the rabbit pest, and which, in the opinion of the council, offer the onlv practical solution for dealing with the problem.” ——
